Dear Russ,
I am a teacher in the district and I am not surprised by the estimated number of out-of-district students attending our schools. I recently sent a letter to a parent via U.S. Postal Service. The letter came back stamped forwarding service has expired. What this means is that the parent no longer resides at the school registered address. This is not the first time I have received this notice. I have suspected that this family resides out of district for a while. When reported to Student Services, they do nothing as usual. The district would rather have the money from the state than rid our district of many of the problem ridden out-of-district students. I really think that Detroit has reason to come after Dearborn for knowingly enrolling kids from their district.
