GIVE ME A BREAK

March 19, 2009

Wouldn’t it be great if the Democratic and Republican Congressman, who are running for cover in the AIG bonus scandal, started to ask some of the same questions about bonus money (political contributions) of themselves?

Democratic Senator Chris Dodd has changed his story twice about the bailout. He first said that he put a provision in the bailout that would not allow bonus’ or golden parachutes, but the very next day he changed his story and said, when the law came back from the Senate House Committee, his bailout provisions had been stricken from his original documents. He then said that there had been a meeting with the Treasury office and they must have removed them. Senator Dodd would not use the name of Treasury Secretary Timothy (I forgot to pay my taxes) Geithner. All he would say is that “someone” took out his prohibition against bailout bonuses.

However, it has now turned out that the White House Presidential Assistant Ron Emanuel, Democratic Congressman Harry Reid, and Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and a few unnamed republican members of the joint committee had a private late night meeting and popped back in the bonus provisions that they are all now complaining about.

I wouldn’t be surprised even if President Obama knew about this meeting, but maybe not, as he’s been very busy lately spending taxpayers money and learning how to use his teleprompters properly.

It may be a fools day but this is no joke

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate on the cheek; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch without written permission from the school head; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly and violent pupil, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a pupil; but could not inform parents when a pupil became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
I Know My Rights
I Want It Now
Someone Else Is To Blame
I'm A Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realised he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on.

born again an american

April 9, 2009

Take a listen to this tune "Born Again American". When I heard it, I was reminded of three of my ex students, Phil Grandalfo, Italian American; John Swan aka swanny ace, African American; and Chico Fernandez, Puerto-Rican American.

They gave their lives in our military so that you and I can be here today and enjoy our freedoms.

Anti Gravity Machine?

April 16, 2009

Years and years ago, far - far away I was a video production teacher in Dearborn, Michigan and I asked why our students were not entering state and national science fairs.

Three of my students said, well we'd like to. So being the dumb teacher that I am, or was, I said lets try it. They went on and won different national and international science fairs.
Three boys you will see in this video are now college graduates, but their project lingers on. Take a look at this video and see what American kids are capable of if only we can give them an opportunity.

If you would like to read more info about this topic then you should get an interesting book called”The Hunt for Zero Point,” by Nick Cook.

russ gibb retired, but still proud of my students.

spinning away

April 21, 2009

As some of you know, I taught TV-production and writing for many years. Frankly, I do not trust any of our major drive-by media to give a truthful assessment of any political incident. This e-mail came to me the other day. Read your own bias into it whether it is from a Republican or Democratic point of view. You are what you eat, and you are what you read and see. Have fun.

Having spoken to some SEAL pals here in Virginia Beach yesterday and asking why this thing dragged out for 4 days, I got the following:

Read the following accurate account.

Philips’ first leap into the warm, dark water of the Indian Ocean hadn’t worked out as well. With the Bainbridge in range and a rescue by his country’s Navy possible, Philips threw himself off of his lifeboat prison, enabling Navy shooters onboard the destroyer a clear shot at his captors —=2 0and none was taken.

The guidance from National Command Authority — the president of the United States, Barack Obama — had been clear: a peaceful solution was the only acceptable outcome to this standoff unless the hostage’s life was in clear, extreme danger.

The next day, a small Navy boat approaching the floating raft was fired on by the Somali pirates — and again no fire was returned and no pirates killed. This was again due to the cautious stance assumed by Navy personnel thanks to the combination of a lack of clear guidance from Washington and a mandate from the commander in chief’s staff not to act until Obama, a man with no background of dealing with such issues and no track record of decisiveness, decided that any outcome other than a “peaceful solution” would be acceptable.

After taking fire from the Somali kidnappers again Saturday night, the onscenecommander decided he’d had enough.

Keeping his authority to act in the case of a clear and present danger to the hostage’s life and having heard nothing from Washington since yet another request to mount a rescue operation had been denied the day before, the Navy officer — unnamed in all media reports to date — decided the AK47 one captor had leveled at Philips’ back was a threat to the hostage’s life and ordered the NSWC team to take their shots.

Three rounds downrange later, all three brigands became enemy KIA and Philips was safe.

There is upside, downside, and spinside to the series of events over the last week that culminated in yesterday’s dramatic rescue of an American hostage.

Almost immediately following word of the rescue, the Obama administration and its supporters claimed victory against pirates in the Indian Ocean and [1] declared that the dramatic end to the standoff put paid to questions of the inexperienced president’s toughness and decisiveness.

Despite the Obama administration’s (and its sycophants’) attempt to spin yesterday’s success as a result of bold, decisive leadership by the inexperienced president, the reality is nothing of the sort. What should have been a standoff lasting only hours — as long as it took the USS Bainbridge and its team of NSWC operators to steam to the location — became an embarrassing four day and counting standoff between a ragtag handful of criminals with rifles and a U.S. Navy warship.
