Getting the Bird

March 26, 2011

One of things that gets to me recently is the number of “non-profit organizations” that are really corporations in disguise. In other words, they use the term “non-profit” in all their ads and so forth, but when you get down to it you find out that they have a bunch of for-profit corporations attached to them. At least in a real corporation you have stock holders who have a vote. In a non-profit it is just a very few people who decide who gets what of the booty.

Two come to mind as I think about these. One is NPR, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. They both run under the cover of the Government and they’re supposedly non-biased. Of coarse anybody who has ever listened to them knows that they have a Liberal slant to them. And if you want to find out what the Government is up to listen to NPR or the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

And then there is Sesame Street. Supposedly that’s just a good kids program, but do you know that the guy who runs it makes millions of dollars off of the sales of Sesame Street merchandise? It’s a racket! And Big Bird’s profits does not go back to the tax payers.

The other one that gets to me is AARP, Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons. They are supposed to be non-profit, but if you look at all of their ads you will find out that they are really a corporation. They have ties to insurance companies, they get money for that, they have ties to medical companies, they get money for that, and they have ties to all kinds of profit making organizations. It’s a con! It’s a con! Wake up!

I used to give money to Public Broadcasting and National Public Radio. I don’t anymore. I still think that they have good shows, but I definitely think that they have a bias. I used to belong to AARP until I realized that they too are a con.

Well it’s up to you. You make up your mind, but I have made up mine.

Very funny to see Big Bird show up in your post here. You mentioned him during the interview yesterday. Great pic.

I will play the devils advocate here Russ. I am pretty sure that the PBS/NPR people think that their programming is pretty even handed with regard to bias against one party or the other. Most Liberals figure that most Republicans (notice I did not say Conservatives) are liars and greedy industry mongers. With that said, it seems reasonable to assume that any time Republicans lead the charge to do anything to hobble or silence PBS or NPR, it is a clear attempt to silence the truth and tip the balance of media bias.

You of all people should know Russ that the mainstream media is run by just a couple people who, by in large, are blatantly sympathetic to the right leaning party. PBS/NPR remains the balance of information for Liberals. Most think the mainstream media is the Liberalistic “Obama Show" but lets face it, they are only pushing (selling) what people are buying. That’s as Republican of an idea as it gets! The Republicans just don't like the fact that taxpayers are paying for the opposition and they are going to stop it while they can.

I personally think that the Republicans in Washington are trying to erase or nullify the only liberal media source out there. They are furthermore, moving to destroy all unions, thus taking away the major funding source of the Democratic Party, once silencing the opposition. We many think we are witnessing is the equivalent of the 911 attack, only it's on the middle class instead of the twin towers. The only problem is that it’s the republicans trying to destroy the Democrats and the middle class and liberal media in one fell swoop by turning us on each other and cutting our access to money and informational balance.

Public sector workers like cops, firefighters, teachers, and other state employees are the innocent by standers that the buildings are falling on top of. We will lose a lot more police, fire fighters and EMS workers during this fiscal attack. They will lose their jobs while the unions crumble and collapse. I shutter to think what our state will look like after unions are gone, thousands of these jobs are lost, and more and more people file into Medicare and unemployment rolls and state services and education go right into the toilet.

Oh, by the way, I know you will do just fine in retirement Russ, but I can’t help but wonder how all the other teachers you worked with at DHS will faire with losing 1/3 of their Pension income. I suppose with the taxing of pensions, we can expect that NO teachers are going to retire any time soon from the Public Schools. This only insures that those at the top of the pay scale will stay there and those entry level teachers getting a fraction of what those Masters +30 folks are getting will leave Michigan looking for work. Once again, here we go with Reagonomics and trickle down economics in Michigan from our one term Governor.

Devils advocate. You seem to have missed the main point of the post. The point is that many NON PROFIT outfits are really FOR PROFIT companies. Read: AARP, MONEY making scam. NOW address that!

By the logic being used here, public schools, churches and charities are all really for profit orginizations.

So why dont we just tax the hell out of them all?

Gee, Tax them to death, You dont read very well. Gibb said , in the first line, and I quote," is the number of non-profit organizations" he did not say ALL.

You usually have all the answers to the schools in Dearborn. Do the administrators have State Certification in Administration? A friend told me the applicant only needs to be working in an administrative program! That can't be true. It would be like a law student working as a board certified attorney. I am especially interested in those who carry administrative positions who are really 'unqualified'. Please inquire and answer about each of the leaders in each school. Thanks. I am sure this is a question not many think about, however, we would expect at their salaries they have earned the necessary and appropriate certification.
