Russ - We are so very sorry for your loss. Alberta was a true example of what being a good person is all about. Unfortunately, lately, we haven't seen you. Our paths have just gone in different directions. But, I still remember all of our breakfasts together.

Take joy in remembering all of the wonderful years that you shared with Alberta and the beautiful memories that you will always cherish.

Love you, Claudia & Richard

My condolences old friend,

When I Die

When I Die
Give what is left of me to children
And to old people who are waiting
For their time to die

If you need to cry,
Cry for your sisters and brothers
Walking the streets of the world beside you

And when you need me,
Put your arms around someone
And give to that one
What you need to give to me

I want to leave you something,
Something better than words or sounds
Look for me in the people that I’ve known
And the people that I’ve loved.

If you still cannot give me away
At least let me live on in your eyes
And not in your mind

You can love me most
By letting hands touch hands
By letting bodies embrace bodies
And by liberating
Those who need to be free

Love does not die
People do.
So, when what is left of me is love.
Give me away.

Anyone who grew up in Dearborn knew Alberta. A very classy lady. I remember seeing her in the store all the time when I was growing up. She will be missed.

Russ, Please express my condolences to all. Mrs. Muirhead was a patient and friend throughout my entire career. I will always appreciate the extreme honor conferred to me through her trust and confidence over those many years. It is so sad to see those of her exceptional era become fewer and fewer in number. She will be remembered as an exceptional individual in my life and in the lives and memories of many other. She will be missed but not forgotten. I can only imagine your personal grief given the loving relationship you and she have enjoyed. With true sincerity and humbleness, Allan and Susan

This woman had class and grace. Alberta Muierhead was Dearborn and with her went just a little bit more of what once made Dearborn great. She will be missed more than words can express.

We were all so lucky to have Alberta an important part of our lives.
She has always been family to us and to so many others in the Dearborn area. With her leaving us a generation has passed from the Dearborn scene which was so special.

Alberta was a mentor and a good friend of mine for 25 years. Her love for Dearborn was unmatched. I loved the way she pronounced Dearborn... "Dearburn". I will fondly remember Alberta's kind words and deeds, and carry them with me forever.

You're much in my thoughts, and I can't imagine your sadness. My daughters and I are so blessed to have known Alberta who was such a wonderful mentor and the most generous person I've ever met. Molly is very sad that she will be unable to attend the funeral to pay tribute to Alberta. We have so many fond memories and great stories to tell. Hugs when we meet, Margaret

Russ, I'm very sad to hear of your loss. All through the years she was a great lady. Take good care of yourself, my friend.

Dear Russ,
I personally want to express my deepest sympathy on the passing of Alberta. I know how much she meant to you, because I know how special she was to my sister Maureen's life.

Alberta brought such wonderful memories to all who grew up in Dearborn. A lady with true grace and a friend from High School phased it on Facebook so eloquently "she was Dearborn's own royalty"
God Bless her Soul.
My prayers are with you, please take care.

Russ- I'm so sorry for your loss. Alberta had such a strong spirit and was so full of joy. We were all lucky to have known her.

Dear Russ - Our hearts go out to you with the loss of dear Alberta. She was a true lady, in every sense of the word, class, style and spirit. When we moved to Dearborn in the 1980s our son was only four years old. Kay took Scott to Muirheads to buy him some shoes. Alberta, the store owner actually stopped to help and showed incredible kindness. She even offered to have Scott do some modeling for the store...though Scott being a macho four year old declined. It was a wonderful moment where Alberta reached out to strangers and made them warm and welcome. All of our lives are certainly more enriched in having known Alberta. Russ - you were truly blessed in having a very special lifelong companion...out thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time...

Please accept my condolences on the passing of Alberta. While I never had the good fortune of knowing her ( other than a brief hello) I had many stories shared with me of her "legendary presence" in Dearborn. And thru you I recognize that she was a much beloved and respected individual who contributed greatly to the lives that surrounded her.

Russ: I am so sorry for your loss and for the loss of so many who loved Alberta. Even after I moved away from Michigan, Alberta would call and "check" on how I was doing. She had a heart that was so giving and loving. She will be missed.

On behalf of the Dearborn Board of Education and all district staff, Mr. Brian Whiston, Superintendent of Dearborn Public Schools, offers his sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dearborn icon Mrs. Alberta Muirhead.

“The city has lost a legend, the school district has lost a strong supporter, but more importantly, friends and family of Mrs. Muirhead have lost a very special person who inspired and touched their lives in so many ways. As we mourn this very sad loss, let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers,” Whiston commented.

As an entrepreneur and businesswoman, Muirhead supported education and through the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce created the annual Teacher of the Year award. The annual celebration recognizes three teachers, one from an elementary, middle and high school. Teachers are nominated by their students and winners are selected by the Chamber’s Education Committee. The award is a great way to thank and recognize the hard working teachers in the classroom.

“This is truly a sad day for Dearborn. Our community has lost a friend,” commented James Schoolmaster, Board of Education President.

So sorry Russ! I've outlived 2 spouses, as well as many relatives & friends. Knowing how a loss like this feels I wish I could do more than offer my condolences, but it is the least I can do. I'm sure that you will never really get over it. My first wife died in 1990, and I still miss her. I wish you well as you deal with your grief.

Hay Russ,

Hello Russ.
It's been years since we last spoke. I hope this message finds you well. I am so sorry to hear about Ms. Muirhead. I remember how fondly you spoke of her and I also remember that I had the opportunity to meet her several times. She was a lovely woman.
I came to your website to just say hello and saw with surprise that your love and companion had just recently passed. I am truly sorry for your loss.

The time we spent together, while trying to help you stay healthy, was both comical and inspiring. I still fondly remember the stories that you shared with me and some of your theories on politics and life.

Again, my deepest sympathy for your tremendous loss. Please take care of yourself.

I am so terribly sorry for your loss of Alberta. I stopped by the funeral home late on Monday, unfortunately after you had left for the evening. She looked stunning.

Alberta was such a remarkable woman who could spark up any room with wit, wisdom, unpredictable candor and a true joy for living. I am honored to have met her through you, and to have her spirit shared into my life.

I've attached a picture I took of the two of you at the WDHS movie premiere last spring. I enjoyed seeing the displays of so many of the pictures through the years, and of the two of you enjoying life together.

You're a lucky guy...

I'll talk to you soon.
