The passenger who tackled a suspected terrorist on Northwest Airlines Flight 253 said Saturday that he’s “happy” to be alive.
Jasper Schuringa, a video director and producer from Amsterdam, told CNN how he helped the cabin crew to subdue Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old who reportedly ignited a small explosive device on board the plane Friday as it prepared to land in Detroit.
Schuringa said he heard a sound that reminded him of a firecracker and someone yelling, “Fire! Fire!”
But he was only certain something was wrong when he saw smoke. He saw Abdulmutallab's pants open and he was holding a burning object between his legs.
"I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away," Schuringa said.
He said he then screamed for water and pulled Abdulmutallab out of his seat and dragged him to the front of the plane.
Schuringa told CNN that Abdulmutallab seemed out of it and "was staring into nothing."
To ensure the suspect did not have other explosives on his body, Schuringa stripped off Abdulmutallab's clothes. He then handcuffed the alleged attacker with the help of a crew member.
Schuringa said the other passengers applauded as he returned to his seat and that he sustained minor injuries during the take down.
"My hands are pretty burned. I am fine," he said. "I am shaken up. I am happy to be here."
And your fellow travelers are happy you were there as well Mr. Schuringa.
America Thanks you, Mr Schuringa

A movie producer is a hero, acting decisively when a Nigerian Muslim tries to kill a whole planeload of people approaching Detroit. The producer probably was coming here because of the work the tax credits attracted. One more reason to keep the movie tax credits in place. By the way, I hope the fire did deep and permanent damage between the legs of the disgusting creep who was so ready to kill infidels.

I am going to do the unthinkable and than stand back and watch the ignorance fly.
Is anyone curious why a guy, who has ties to the American Central Intelligence Agency in the middle east, was the guy to put out this "would be" bomber?
Let’s analyze this for just one quick moment or two. The bomber simply blew it! The bomb was a fizzle, nothing but a small fire occurred. A photographer, who has been reported by USA Today, has been on the payroll of the CIA as far back as 2001, basically puts out the fizzle, and strips a totally compliant terrorist single handedly. No one from the crew or any other passengers assisted or was involved. The photographer is now gone and so is the terrorist. Basically, every single person working on that plane stood back and let the photographer do everything.
All of this while the Patriot act is on temporary life support as it was granted a brief extension after expiring.
Now are we to believe that all of this is a coincidence? How much do you folks want to bet that as a result of this little episode, we will now have our CIA and Americans screaming to renew the oppressive and unconstitutional Patriot act indefinitely? Just as it was about to expire permanently.
Whenever something like this occurs, you people need to start looking around and stop buying into the rhetoric that the government controlled media keeps feeding you. This event was nothing but a blatant attempt to rev up fears of terrorist attacks so the CIA can get its privacy crushing patriot act reinstated. And you people are falling for it hook line and sinker! Why isn’t anyone else making the connection to the photographer from Amsterdam and the CIA? Why isn’t anyone curious as to why, of all the things a terrorist could do, he picks to blow up a single flight from Amsterdam to Detroit with household chemicals? So many easy targets, but this is what terrorists go after? Considering the airport security in Amsterdam, why is anyone surprised? Finally, like the shoe bomber, the method the supposed terrorist used was so crude and non technical as to make one suspect that it was never intended to work properly in the first place. Every single other bomber who actually succeeded does the act at high altitude over the ocean, but this guy waits until the plain is almost on the ground?
Finally, has anyone else wondered why every single picture of the bomber is a vague and distorted picture? Not a passport or identification picture, which can be had by any media outlet through FOIA, but a blurry and undistinguishable picture. We know for a fact he is a Muslim, but we cant come up with a good picture of the guy? We know the bomber is a Muslim but we are not being told the photographer works for the CIA? Come on folks, REALLY!
We are being set up for another set of unpopular and privacy busting set of laws folks. As usual, the American public, terrified of their own shadow, are now ready to fork over their rights because of one single compliant terrorist who set off a firecracker on an air liner, than was whisked off never to be seen or herd from again. Now let me just sit back and listen to the mindless “Sean Hannity” crowd scream “UNPATRIOTIC” for raising the specter that this was a huge set up intended to provide the impetus for reinstating the patriot act.

Department of Homeland securty Democrat Chief Napolitano on Deroit metro Bomber: "The System Worked" Obama team in action. HELP !

Obama, Does not show up or speak in public until three days later ? Whats happened to the Democratic Party ? They have lost my respect ..

So here we go against The President and the Department of Homeland Security is clamoring to make the Patriot act permanent on the heels of the Christmas pseudo plane bombing event. I cannot believe we are going to gleefully hand off our rights to due process and privacy to our government because of this very suspicious event.
Why isn’t anyone talking to the photographer and who he is? Why is the justice department pushing so hard to have this person tried in a military court instead of a civilian court? In a Military proceeding, the media can be shut out and this person can be executed quickly without us ever knowing the details or his testimony heard. Why isn’t anyone talking about the “handler” he was clearly working with on this flight? Several passengers say he was clearly associating and acting in concert with another passenger before and during the flight. Who was that guy? Why is everyone ignoring him? We can ID anyone with face recognition software, but we can’t find the bombers handler? Even in Amsterdam, not just anyone can enter the terminal areas, and would have had to be videoed at least a hundred times before and after the flight.
Here we are being asked to hand over our right to privacy and giving unprecedented authority to the government to affect warrant-less searches, monitoring and detainment of American citizens and we are being fed a pre-packaged story full of holes and mysterious people? How many times are we going to fall for this?
Before you say that they are keeping all of this a secret for the sake of national security, why are they putting every single bit of information out about the accused bomber? Family information, background, education, we know every single thing about this supposed Jihadist, but nothing about anyone or anything else. As aggressive as the press is in pursuing “hero’s” why are they giving this “hero” his room to not be interviewed? Why has Jasper Schuringa , the airplane hero been referred to in earlier articles as a “CIA asset.”

WAR! what really led to the downfall of Bush's leadership was that his premise was false. He wanted to believe, like Condi and Powell and the soft diplomacy crowd, that Islam would negotiate. Islam cannot negotiate. It is their mandate. This is a function of the Western mind. Obama and these people think that it is inconceivable that talk can't solve anything and everything. That war is not indelibly part of the human condition. But it is.... War is as much the make-up of man as sex, food, art, love, all of it.

To 'ADA': Wow. Rarely is this idea stated so bluntly, but you are right on both counts. War will always be with us on some level, at some place in the world. Also true is that Islam will not truly negotiate. As someone said "It is the soldier who gives us freedom, not the politician."
