Here Is the Question for You

June 1, 2009

Now you’re all aware that I like to mouth off a lot on my website. I keep throwing out my opinions. Now it’s your turn.

Here’s a question I have for you. Why is it that our national politicians spend millions of dollars to run for an office that pays for a national representative $174,000 and a Senator $193,400 a year? Oh and by the way, House and Senate lawmakers are given an annual allowance of $1.3 million to $4.5 million a year to run their offices....?

Come on, tell me what you think. – russ gibb

Democratic Senator Carl Levin, and Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow

Oh let's see, maybe in addition to the office allowances, the best healthcare programs available, the pensions after leaving and perks of celebrity, etc. How many of them have run for office and retired millionaires? The constiuents are expected to whether a bad economy. The politicians seems to benefit no matter what kind of economy they experience. Let's also include the judicial lifetime appointments in this group.

I like what California did, only I'd like to expand it: No One in Government gets anything whenever we are running a deficient.

I know, call me a dreamer, but our President said that he wants to spread the wealth, and since the nation is in such dire straits, our politicians and bureaucrats deserve to experience a little of it!!!

Russ, people in government today are in government for nothing more than for what they can get out of it. It is about power and a way to smooth their egos. Politicians suck the life blood out of long time family an friends and throw them under the bus the first time those family members and friends are no longer any use to them. I know this from personal experience having had the misfortune of knowing folks just like that. Politicians, especially the two sorry sacks of donothingness that you have posted are the biggest of examples of two people who have stayed at the fair too long. Time and space do not allow me to go into a lengthy posting as to what I REALLY think about politicians and our government but at this moment in time, it is pathetic and I am afraid we have seen the worst of it.

Sorry, I should have said we haven't seen the worst of yet in this country.

Politicians like Big Debbie Stabenow should spend less of her time being completely useless, and take care of her husband. Keep him off 8 mile please.

For the same reason that the politicians keep running over and over again in Dearborn.

Why have you been giving the local politicins and problems such a pass recently. Russ, get out of the house and take a better look at your community. If we can't fix our own house, why bother about the national house?

--by claudia on 6/9/09   Lives: Dearborn

I agree, Russ. I was disappointed that you don't mention some of the scandals going on in our own city. We have council members that don't feel they need to pay taxes, and a whole slew of crooked business going on!

Claudia and TKP are right. I certainly would like to know more of the corruption going on in Dearborn. Start with throwing the bums out in Dearborn and work our way up.

Russ, why don't you ask your friend, John Dingell? Have you researched his portfolio? Talk about being a millionaire politician!
