I was born in Germany and immigrated when my parents came here (at 6months). They were both taken from Poland to Germany to work in camps. Although I never got to know anything about being in Germany or my parents homeland, when we all became American citizens (50 years ago), there is a part of me that still feels Polish, Lithuanian, part German and even still more Polish. I honor that part -- it is my heritage. But having lived almost all of my life in America, I am proud to be an American, but I also feel pride in being Polish, Lithuanian, etc. Why should I deny that part of me.

Alice-
You dont have to deny being proud of being Polish, Lithuanian etc. You can be proud to be American and proud of everything else you are. Just make sure you are proud to be American if you want to live here. I can be proud to be a mom, a wife, an educated women, an asset to my company, being proud is not mutally exclusive.
