One dollar bill lesson

January 5, 2008

This came as an E-mail the other, day. So take a look and let me know ,your take on subject. But as I remember from my Latin class at Fordson, There is some disagremment as to the translated Vulgate Latin used on our dollar bill. Also as to the the words "In God we Trust". Hate to bring up the subject, but seems that several of our founding fathers were either deist, agnostic or atheists. Do you know which of our founding fathers said "Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man" or who said "Lighthouses are more useful than churches" Spend some time pondering these quotes and tell me what you know. vox populi

THE UNITED STATES ONE DOLLAR BILL

Take out a one dollar bill, and look at it. The one dollar bill you're
looking at first came off the presses in 1957 in its present design.

This so-called paper money is in fact a cotton and linen blend, with
red and blue minute silk fibers running through it. It is actually
material. We've all washed it without it falling apart. A special blend
of ink is used, the contents we will never know. It is overprinted with
symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed
to give it that nice crisp look.

If you look on the front of the bill, you will see the
United States Treasury Seal.

On the top you will see the scales for a balanced budget.
In the center you have a carpenter's square, a tool used for an even cut.
Underneath is the Key to the United States Treasury.
That's all pretty easy to figure out, but what is on the back of that
dollar bill is something we should all know.

If you turn the bill over, you will see two circles.
Both circles, together, comprise the Great Seal of the United States.

The First Continental Congress requested that Benjamin Franklin
and a group of men come up with a Seal. It took them four years
to accomplish this task and another two years to get it approved.

If you look at the left-hand circle, you will see a Pyramid.

Notice the face is lighted, and the western side is dark.
This country was just beginning. We had not begun to explore
the west or decided what we could do for Western Civilization.
The Pyramid is uncapped, again signifying that we were not
even close to being finished. Inside the capstone you have the
all-seeing eye, an ancient symbol for divinity.
It was Franklin's belief that one man couldn't do it alone, but a
group of men, with the help of God, could do anything.

"IN GOD WE TRUST" is on this currency.

The Latin above the pyramid, ANNUIT COEPTIS, means,
"God has favored our undertaking."

The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means,
"a new order has begun." At the base of the pyramid is the
Roman Numeral for 1776. (MDCCLXXVI)

If you look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully,

you will learn that it is on every National Cemetery in the United States.
It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida
National Cemetery, and is the centerpiece of most hero's monuments.
Slightly modified, it is the seal of the President of the United States,
and it is always visible whenever he speaks, yet very few people know
what the symbols mean.

The Bald Eagle was selected as a symbol for victory for two reasons:
First, he is not afraid of a storm; he is strong, and he is smart enough
to soar above it.
Secondly, he wears no material crown.
We had just broken from the King of England.
Also, notice the shield is unsupported. This country can now stand on
its own. At the top of that shield you have a white bar signifying
congress, a unifying factor.
We were coming together as one nation. In the Eagle's beak you will read,
"E PLURIBUS UNUM" meaning, "one from many."

Above the Eagle, you have thirteen stars, representing the thirteen
original colonies, and any clouds of misunderstanding rolling away.
Again, we were coming together as one.

Notice what the Eagle holds in his talons. He holds an olive branch
and arrows. This country wants peace, but we will never be afraid
to fight to preserve peace.
The Eagle always wants to face the olive branch, but in time of war,
his gaze turns toward the arrows.

They say that the number 13 is an unlucky number. This is almost a
worldwide belief. You will usually never see a room numbered 13,
or any hotels or motels with a 13th floor.

But think about this:

13 original colonies,
13 signers of the Declaration of Independence,

13 stripes on our flag,

13 steps on the Pyramid,

13 letters in, "Annuit Coeptis,"

13 letters in "E Pluribus Unum," 13 stars above the Eagle,
13 bars on that shield, 13 leaves on the olive branch, 13 fruits, and if you look closely, 13 arrows. A
Finally, if you notice the arrangement of the 13 stars in the right- hand circle you will see that they are arranged as a Star of David. This was ordered by George Washington who, when he asked Hayyim Solomon, the wealthy Philadelphia Jew, what he would like as a personal reward for his services to the Continental Army, Solomon said he wanted nothing for himself but that he would like something for his people. The Star of David was the result. Few people know that Solomon who saved the Army through his financial contributions died a pauper.

I always ask people, "Why don't you know this?"

Many of our children don't know this. Including some of their history teachers.

Why Not ?

It's not taught because it's pure fiction.

Seems "stop the propaganda",has a very closed mind. You see this post was posted as a LESSON. A lesson should make you think not agree or disagree. It made me look up the word vulgate .

--by Thinking on 1/5/08   Lives: Michigan

Our founding fathers had a certain amount of healthy skepticism and low regard for organized religion. This makes it all the more interesting that both of the recent Iowa primary winners are Christians that love to mention it, one lutheran, the other southern baptist, and neither has any problem mentioning their Christian beliefs in speeches.

Back in the 1948 Presidential Election, Strom Thurmond made a comment about "running Truman back to hell" with his Dixiecrats. Truman, who was considered the more raucous of Presidential candidates, said "I'm not sure anyone is comfortable with that much religion in politics." Thurmond mentioned the word hell and got blow back, and yet today our candidates are being asked if they believe Jesus Christ is their personal savior and no one seems to think the wiser. When did religion stop becoming a private affair?

Russ, regarding the founders quotes. Taking word out of context can be very deriving.

--by reader on 1/6/08   Lives: Michigan

Mr gibb, Brian states that Barack Hussein Obama is a Lutheran is flat out wrong. He is a recent new member of the Trinity Church of Christ in Chicago. Also his Muslim background is very interesting in a Time magazine piece posted online on
October 16, 2006, Obama wrote that
"although my father had been raised a Muslim, by the time he met my mother
he was a confirmed atheist, thinking religion to be so much superstition."
Further, Obama's Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro was described by the Chicago Tribune as "much more of a free spirit than a devout Muslim."
Obama's mother was also an Atheist.

--by Just the facts on 1/6/08   Lives: Detroit area

Very interesting. Obama's Indonesian stepfather, Lolo Soetoro was described by the Chicago Tribune as "much more of a free spirit than a devout Muslim." Liberal media spin for he is still a Muslim.

--by Media disbeliver on 1/6/08   Lives: Michigan

Hang on to your hats ! It seems the liberal Democratic Party women in Iowa went for Obama . Wonder if they knew that his church in Chicago is considered racist by some, because only the MALE elders can vote on church policies. Gee, sounds just like the college of Cardinals in Rome :)

Russ,
Please take the post re: the one dollar bill OFF your site. While not completely false, much of it is COMMON conjecture and cannot be verified by historical record.
Perform your own google search and you will find thousands of hits under the subject and the majority are duplicates of the very e-mail you have posted.

But, scroll through several pages (or all) and you will notice the sources are not reputable historic or governmental sites. They are COMMON rumors by individuals who find the symbols fascinating (they are)but are disappointed by the mundane factual history - Surely these symbols must be of some greater significance. Well, what could it be? They are very good guesses but, quite simply false.

Ha,Ha, For truth, is for censorship of ideas he does not like. Russ keep up your good work at getting people to think. I don't always agree with you but you sure get me going.

--by Allen on 1/6/08   Lives: Michigan

My question, simply stated, is:
How much worse could Obama be than our current administration? When Bush took office, our economy was strong, gas was like 1.50 a gallon, we were not at war in ANY country, We were not rattling our sabers about going to war in a third country (Iran) Michigan was an economic and manufacturing powerhouse and the price of utilities was way lower.

--by Anybody but Hillery on 1/6/08   Lives: Dearborn

Anybody but Hillery, is correct:
His questions are SIMPLE and his comments are also SIMPLE .Gas prices inaccurate. Bush improved the economy. Islamic Terrorists were at war with America. And the UN,NATO And American liberals were saber rattling in Kosava. Also Michigan was losing auto share and then Democrat Grandhome took over and Michigan is now the failure state.
This guy must read Time magizine and watch CNN News he's loaded with misinformation.

--by Worker on 1/6/08   Lives: Detroit area

Anybody but Hillery ,sure has being a know it all liberal pseudo intellectual, down pat. I've met his type many times. They read an article or go to the internet, look up the liberal Snopes urban legends site take on the subject and then think they know it all. He cherry picks his facts to suit his argument. Any sophomore in high school can do that. Bottom line he is a Bush hater and like most Democrats is fact blind. Also one gets the impression that he is full of himself. Maybe he is a politician or teacher masquerading as a sophomore.Look that up cherry picker!

--by BS detector on 1/7/08   Lives: Dearborn

Censorship of ideas vs historical facts - Is this post about an individuals "ideas" as to the meaning behind the symbols on the one dollar bill?
Are these symbols such a mystery that we have to guess their meaning? No and No
The writer of the post assumes an authoritative position and presents it as fact. Much of the information is false - Russ you are perpetuating a myth. Shame on you for not checking the source and for giving credit to this historical hoax.
Allen, I would personally go to war and fight to save you from ever being censored in voicing your opinion or ideas. In fact, many other Americans have already done so. When you open a History book and read the history of this great country, do you expect it to be the truth based on recorded facts or just a bunch of ideas/guesses about what happened?

If we dilute and misrepresent the history of our nation then we are living and paying taxes for a system we can't value because we don't know what it is.
If our free speech rights were under attack would we know enough about their history and importance to fight to keep them? We will never value this country enough to keep it from crumbling if we keep allowing its history to be revised, propagandize, and bastardized.

--by For Truth on 1/7/08   Lives: Dearborn

So what, I am a history and I did not know this, should I know this? Why should we teach this ? What is your point ? How does this validate your points ? I see no interest.

--by Dollar on 1/8/08   Lives: Detroit area

Dollar, You are a history ? History what ? You are a mystery. I see no point in you. LOL

--by LOL again on 1/8/08   Lives: Dearborn

I'm surprised at all the hysteria this little post has created... Certainly some of the things it says are true (I've read elsewhere about some of the symbolism of the eagle with arrows, olive branch, etc.) and some of it seems at least a bit stretched, but interesting none the less. If one doesn't like it, he or she can take a deep breath and politely move on.

--by Lori on 1/8/08   Lives: Dearborn

Thanks to the poster of this.
As for those folks that wish to censor this -- get a freekin' life.

This posting made me pull a dollar out of my pocket and look at it probably more closely than I ever have. Perhaps our teachers should be as creative in getting our kids to open their books and look as closely at them!!!

I have been looking online thru government web pages to prove the posting either true or false. While I dont know for sure yet -- I am learning stuff at the same time -- whats the harm in that?

As for "THE TRUTH" since they seem to have all of the correct answers -- how then did the Dollar become to being? And what are the "TRUE" meanings of all of the symbols on this paper? Please set us straight "The Truth". If you say something IS False -- you must know "The Truth" so what is it??

As far as the Bush and Hitler Hillary attacks how does THIS even relate to this post?? You seriously think that all of the bad things started the day when Bush took office -- you are SADLY mistaken. This has been in the "brewing" for quite some time.

This is a great post -- and no need to remove it.

--by The Blue Parrot on 1/21/08   Lives: Detroit area

To those who choose not to believe all or any of what is here, I have this to say.
You are quick to say that this is not the truth. Yet, you do not give one example of a falsehood. Tell us what part is false and then tell us the REAL truth.

THE BLUE PARROT, I agree completely with what you say.

And yes, this is a great post. Positively do not remove it.
