Dearborn’s Next Mayor

January 9, 2007

A lot of people have asked my thoughts about the upcoming election for mayor. So here’s what I think, but remember, these are my opinions only.

Jack O’Reilly will be elected the next mayor of Dearborn, Michigan. He loves our city and he knows the territory well.

Maureen Keane-Doran is an excellent candidate and a true public servant, but she has been out of the media’s eye for too long a period. I hope she will run for council some day.

Abed Hammoud has filed his petition but at the last minute I don’t think he’ll run. But Abed is a very smart young man and knows the importance of keeping his name in the public’s eye.

Thomas Tafelski will run but in the process he will lose his council seat. And what will become of his political ambitions after that – I don’t know.

Now, for the rest of the good citizens who have pulled petitions and have filed petitions and are running I wished them good luck, but unfortunately most of them will fade away for another day.

Well, you asked for my opinion, here it is. Now let me know what you think.

Cheers

russ

Ask Tom Tafelski why he wasn't at the city budget meeting to discuss and vote on the 2007 city budget. It seems to me that someone with his aspirations and position would want to attend one of the most important meetings of the year. Oh yeah, it wasn't televised. That explains a lot.

--by Taxpayer on 1/9/07   Lives: Dearborn

Maureen lives in Arizona for part of the year with hubby Wayne. She could spend winters there while Doug Thomas spends his in Florida. In the world of technology, this could work!

--by Watch Dog on 1/9/07   Lives: Dearborn

This will be a re-run of the 2006 August Dearborn Heights District Court primary election and Hammoud's team knows it and has planned for it. There is no primary here - it's winner take all.

Abed has played his cards right. He's our next Mayor.

--by Dearborn Underground on 1/9/07   Lives: Dearborn

Yesterday (January 8th) Jack O'Reilly held a fundraiser that was hosted by the same folks he helped enrich with the Montomgery Wards scam. Using our tax dollars to line the pockets of folks who turn around and funnel it back inot his campaign. Typical, but not surprising, behavior by ol Black Jack.

We need to clean out the city hall rats nest. Vote for REAL CHANGE. Vote for Tom Tafelski.

--by HAS HE NO SHAME? on 1/9/07   Lives: Dearborn

I agree with most of Big Russ' thoughts. There is a slight danger with a large pool of candidates running of O'Rielly not getting elected. Tom Tafelski is taking a huge risk running against such a powerhouse however, if he does indeed one day want to become mayor ... there may be no better time. If O'Rielly wins, he will most likely stay mayor for at least a decade and the political climate could change drastically for Tafelski by then. If Tafelski could come up with a clever political move (i.e. "Let's talk about the Arab problem") and has some deep pockets backing him, he could sneak in. One thing is for certain, it is a HUGE risk for Tafelski to run at this time.

--by Russ For Mayor! on 1/9/07   Lives: Dearborn

My first choice was Woronchak for mayor, but since he's not in the race, I have to go with Maureen Keane-Doran. She knows how to make government work FOR THE PEOPLE and not just those who make campaign contributions (are you listening Jack?).

--by DearbornDan on 1/9/07   Lives: Dearborn

Tafelski is the 'wedge' candidate who will successfully split of the field so Hammoud can win. This race has been well-orchestrated by political operatives.

Is there a Department Head position for Tom in the Hammoud Administratiion?

--by Dearborn Underground on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Tafelski is a lightweight candidate, He is being used by his so called "friends" and politcal opratives to dilute the Jack O'Reillys vote for the benefit of Abed Hammoud. Tomas Tafelski is being used as a sacrificial lamb. Sad to say, the poor guy just does'nt get it .

--by voter on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Tafelski has been heard around town stating the " King Is Dead." What kind of a person would say such a thing? Watch out for vultures.

--by In the KNow on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Mr Gibb, I agree with your assessment of the upcoming election. Jack O'Reilly is the best canidate. He has been in city goverment for many years and gets on well with all of our diverse populations.

--by T Capalong on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

I hear that Democrat Rep. John Dingell is going to endorse John "jack" O'Reilly for Dearborn mayor. And if true, that's good enought for me. I'll vote for O'Reilly.

--by American/Polish voter on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Has O'Reilly ever had a job that taxpayers didn't fund? It's time to get off of the government teat.

I agree with the comments of "Has He No Shame." O'Reilly throws around our money as if it's his own. Talk about corrupt. Sheesh.

--by Get a real job on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Abed Hammoud would like everyone to think he is so smart, that he can split the vote for O'Reilly and then deliver the "Arab" vote. What a joke. The "Arab" vote is as split as any other group. Arab voters can think for themselves.

--by Aware on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

I don't follow City Council Politics much (probably a strong suit for what I'm about to say) but I honestly think O'Reilly will win no matter what. Any kind of political trick involving Tafelski and/or Hammoud is not enough to overpower the fact that O'Reilly is known in just about every household and has public presence and media presence that none of the others do. Very few voters pay such close attention to city council / mayoral races that they will make a vote based on an issue discrepancy. Most will vote simply on who they see the most and trust.

Does anyone know who Mrs Guido would like to carry on the work of our great and late Mayor Micheal Guido ?

--by Pamala on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

To answer \"Pamala\'s\" question (You misspelled Pamela, by the way, Jack). Mrs. Guido has fallen in line with the rest of the city hall crowd who have been ripping off taxpayers for years. Given that her family (Mark Guido) is running O\'Reilly\'s campaign out of his offices in City Hall, no one should be surprised that Mrs. Guido is gon to back the status quo.

All these folks need to be broomed out the door.

--by Get a real job on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Just for the record. My name is spelled Pamala. As for spelling maybe you should read your post for errors. Speaking of getting a real job, How many real jobs has Tafelski had in the last 5 years? Why does he keep being let go ? Maybe Mr Mosallam could become his manager as well as his boss.

--by Pamala on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Hey I love it.
A Tafelski supporter using the name "get a real job" may have to ask Tafelski the same question after Tafelski gets kicked off the council and loses his bid for mayor. Maybe Roman Tafelski can help him out .

--by Old Timer on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

This is so funny reading all of these posters writing about all these "secret political agenda's" while pushing their own. Not to mention some being obvious lies.

--by State Some Facts to Back Up Your Claims on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

I\'d lay odds that \"Pamala\" and \"old timer\" are part of O\'Reilly\'s inner circle (Hi, Mark) that are scared to death that the taxpayer-funded gravy train is going to be derailed if Tafelski is elected.

O\'Reilly is clearly running scared. Why else would he recklessly accept tainted money from the \"Montgomery Ward Gang\" and strong arm department heads into selling tickets to his fundraiser?

His actions stink to high heaven and we can\'t get him out of City Hall -- and away from our tax money -- soon enough.

Tafelski is our only hope to return clean government to the people of Dearborn.

--by Get a real job on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Just because some people think Mr Talelski is a big liar does not make it true. So just because he changed jobs several times does not make him a loser.

--by A friend on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

I see that all of the political antics haven't eluded Russ Gibbs site. It is especially funny to read peoples postings complaing about others political agendas while pushing their own.

--by Back up your allegations with some facts on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Ha,ha, Talelski our only hope for clean goverment ? You must be related to the poor guy. lets face it, Taleleski is a puppet for his boss B. Mossalla and his dream of being the power behind his puppet Thomas Talelski. Face it Talelski, you can run, but you can't hide. We know who you are and know who pulls your strings. Good luck in your new job search after you lose.

--by Stating some true facts on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

"We" know who you are? Sounds pretty threatening (ha). You people think you own City Hall and have a God-given right to use our money to enrich yourselves and your cronies.

When Tafelski is elected and the people finally learn how much money has been looted by O'Reilly and his pals they're going to run him out of town on a rail (that is, if the feds down throw him in the clink first).

--by Get a real job on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Talelski is a patsy for Abed Hammouds plan to divide the O'Reilly vote and conquer our city via the ballot box. Hey, it's the American way .

--by Amused on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

Tafelski will be hired by Mayor Hammoud as his Deputy in return for Tom's cutting into the O'Reilly vote. Look what Kwame Kilpatrick did with Sharon McPhail. It happens all the time.

--by Dearborn Underground on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

It should be no supprise that people use this site to push their own agendas. For me I'm not involved in any of the campaigns but offer the following as opinion of someone who has been involved in the past.

O'Reilly should win but it won't be easy, the short campaign period will work in his favor, there just isn't time for the others to expand their bases. Interesting that the City Hall people all are supporting him. A few years ago non of them liked him. Job security will do that.

Tafelski will find that outside of his group of pals he really dosn't have much support and will be on the outside if he dosen't pull his petitions before Friday. If he were to ever win he would be lost without anyone to tell him what to do.

Maureen could be the key to what ever happens. She won't win but may pull enough votes to upset the whole thing. She has lots of money to spend and has a grudge for everybody at City Hall.

Abed Hammoud could only hope to win if he was able to unite the various arab groups but O'Reilly is in the same pockets that Guido was the last time Abed ran. He will shake things up though but there is not enough time or promises he can make to bring the various arab groups together.

The key to this election like most in this town will be the absentee voters. O'Reilly should get those unless Maureen is able to use the Hubbard connection without people remembering what the connection was.

YEAAAA Jack -- after you're elected, assign someone to throw a decent St. Pat's Day celebration -- you know, one that has real Irish dancers, a piper or two, and by all means, glasses instead of paper cups for libation. Coffee cups and real plates would be nice, too.

--by ANTENNAE on 1/10/07   Lives: Another country

I think Mrs. Guido should have filed her petition to run. She would make an excellent mayor.

Why don't all the naysayers and conspiracy theorists have the courage to run for elected office? I'd like to see this "Get a Real Job", character take an active part in something positive -- as in dedicating efforts toward better and more responsive public service. This person is on the web teat!!!

--by Dearborn Underground on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

A good old-fashioned political free-for-all!! Yeh!! The voters of Dearborn will wake up the morning after the election either disappointed or happy depending on who they supported for. The sun will come up, the City will continue to run, and life will go on.

Tarik Salmaci will take on Rocky Balboa in a winner take all heavyweight fight for the mayorship of Dearborn. The fight will be refereed by Maureen Keane-Doran and will be promoted by Doyne Jackson. Tarik will win in a knockout in the 33rd round and be next mayor of Dearborn.

--by Nino Valdes on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

The City Hall Machine is hard to beat. O'Reilly will be the next Mayor, the recent court ruling on our charter pretty much sealed that. Unless of course one of the opponents proves something so severe it send them a KO punch.

--by Dearborn Dude on 1/10/07   Lives: Dearborn

With all those years on the Council, this will be a great pension booster for him. Instead of his retirement based on $26,000 a year, his will be based on $130,000 a year. Between that and his dealings with the Montgomery Ward bandits, he should be sitting high on the hog in no time. Talk about planning for your future...

--by Show me the money... on 1/11/07   Lives: Dearborn

The only person running that loves this city enough to be Mayor is Jack O'Reilly. Tom Taf. doesn't love anything more than he loves himself! Good riddens.

--by Ego Trip on 1/11/07   Lives: Dearborn

Jack O'Reilly has been a good council person . He is a fair man. I think he will make a good mayor.

--by retired on 1/11/07   Lives: Dearborn

Jack O'Rielly's last trustworthy decision was March 2001. Jack endorsed Maltese for the Jacobsens project, much to Guido's chagrin. Then Guido got to Jack. 9 months later, Jack ran Maltese out of town and O'Rielly has shared in the spoils of City Hall bribes and kickbacks ever since. This includes $300,000 from Montgomery Ward bad deal.

--by millions of dollars poorer on 1/11/07   Lives: Dearborn

No one believes Jack got any of the $300,000 from Montgomery Wards. Why would Bazzi have to throw a $110,000 fund raiser last Monday for him if he gave $300,000 to him before?

I have received a variety of calls from individuals inquiring if I was the "DearbornDan" found on this blog, as well as the Free Press. This is not the case. Several years ago,I used the e-Mail "DearbornDan@AOL/Yahoo/Comcast", but this is no longer the case. Hopefully this will set the story straight. Any comments or correspondence found on the web from "DearbornDan" is not from me. Thanks.

When I read the posts on here attacking Mr. O'Rilly, two names come to my mind. Doug Thomas and Thomas Tafelski. Both had dreams of becoming Dearborns mayor one day. Thomas is bitter and Tafelski does'nt get it.
